Your device is your responsibility. It could be the point of intrusion in your business. Your device could be used to cripple your business or as a reason to intrude into someone else’s business.
It is very important to maintain proper security with regard to your personal computer – could be your laptop or the personal computer. The exploits used to infect your personal device could be Virus, Worms, Trojans, key loggers, Skimmers, Password filters etc. the above-mentioned exploits could lead to your data loss, data theft, loss of personal information, loss of credentials like passwords or access codes etc.
Few things you can do are:
- Never leave your device unattended
- Never leave your device in any common area where anyone can access it without permission
- Keep a register of access whenever someone access your device
- Back up your data regularly
- Keep multiple copies of your important data in different locations
- Try to memorize the access passwords or pins and not write it down where it is not reachable to unauthorized persons
- Encrypt your data disk safely
- Have an access control policy and follow it to the dot
- Install updates regularly
- Use good anti-virus software’s and firewalls
- Your gadgets should be properly patched with the latest updates
- Update your operating systems regularly
- Never use pirated operating systems or software’s
- Be careful when any input or storage device is connected to your device
- Whenever such external devices are connected remember to scan them properly to make sure that the device is not infected
- Keep your device password protected
