Life – Balance sheet

I’ve been writing and rewriting this note many times, editing and refining it, yet I know it will never be perfect. No matter how much time I spend on it, it will always feel like a work in progress. Having crossed more than half of my journey, I write with the assumption—like most in my family who have celebrated their 80th—that I too will see many more years ahead.
Call this an evaluation or a note of gratitude? I am not sure. But the very act of putting my thoughts on paper has been a fascinating journey down memory lane.
The Negative Side
A failed marriage
Relatives who spoke ill behind my back
Loved ones who betrayed my trust
Friends who cheated
The Positive Side
Nature’s blessings, like devoted parents
Guardians who always had my best interests at heart
A son who mirrors me in so many ways
Children who are bright stars to look forward to
Friends who understand even my silence
Angels sent by God at the right moments
A loving partner to hold my hand—and occasionally nag—for the rest of my life
Material Achievements
Certificates that could fill an A4 sheet
A PhD in Dance
Dance productions curated to my taste
A national award
Published works as an author
A prestigious state assignment
The pride of keeping my “boat” afloat, rowed with dignity and style to date
