Digital forensics investigation is the process of identifying, extracting, preserving, and documenting digital evidence using specialized tools. Any data that has been recovered, processed, or investigated must be securely preserved and presented as evidence in a court of law in its digital format. This entire process forms the core of digital forensics.

The forensic analyst or the forensic team, responsible for conducting the investigation, is an integral part of the digital forensics process. Digital forensics involves not only investigating cyber crimes but also securing, processing, and presenting evidence while employing strategies, technologies, and tools in the digital space.

Digital forensics investigations are commonly applied in the corporate sector. This includes handling hacking incidents, network intrusions, system breaches, data theft, malware infections, compromised firewalls, or tampered databases. Any disruption in these areas falls under the purview of digital forensic investigation.

Today, digital forensics is crucial in the corporate world—not only to present data as evidence in courts digitally but also to ensure compliance with security procedures and safeguard corporate information.
