Mohiniyattom – my first love

Dancing has been my medium of communication. Mohiniyattom is my mother tongue, my first love. The medium tempo and poetic expressions have always inspired me. The hyper-human in me learned to harness and mellow down with this form. People often said I was blunt and sharp in my opinions. Mohiniyattom taught me to discipline my thoughts and re-word them for better dialogue.

The cream-colored costume lightly decorated with golden borders, the golden ornaments, and original jasmine flowers (used to be only original flowers in the past) were all little things that gave me joy.

Some lessons a stage performance taught me:

  1. Being on stage is a do-or-die moment – it's your one chance to impress the audience, and there’s no second opportunity.
  2. Each person in the audience gives the performer a piece of their life by sparing their time to watch the show.
  3. A performer should truly enjoy the act to create a lasting impact.
  4. Consistent practice is the key to delivering an outstanding performance.
  5. The story should be narrated with the right tone, rhythm, and modulation to keep the audience engaged.
  6. The performer must stay in control and lead the performance confidently.
