Device Security
Your device is your responsibility. It could be the point of
intrusion in your business. Your device could be used to cripple
your business or as a gateway to intrude into someone else’s
business.
It is very important to maintain proper security for your personal
computer — whether it is a laptop or a desktop. The exploits used to
infect your device could include viruses, worms, Trojans,
keyloggers, skimmers, password filters, etc. These exploits could
lead to data loss, data theft, loss of personal information, and
loss of credentials like passwords or access codes.
A Few Things You Can Do
- Never leave your device unattended.
-
Never leave your device in any common area where anyone can access
it without permission.
-
Keep a register of access whenever someone uses your device.
- Back up your data regularly.
-
Keep multiple copies of your important data in different
locations.
-
Memorize access passwords or PINs instead of writing them down
where unauthorized persons could find them.
- Encrypt your data disk securely.
- Have an access control policy and follow it strictly.
- Install updates regularly.
- Use good antivirus software and firewalls.
-
Ensure your gadgets are properly patched with the latest updates.
- Update your operating systems regularly.
- Never use pirated operating systems or software.
-
Be careful when any input or storage device is connected to your
device.
-
Always scan external devices before use to ensure they are not
infected.
- Keep your device password protected.
-
Remember that physical security, technical security, and personal
security are all equally important.
